Launch Your Career In Tech

Generational Shift USA provides education and apprenticeship opportunities to help people from underserved communities launch tech careers.

How Generational Shift Tech Apprenticeship Program Works

The program is built on the philosophy that with the proper training, coaching, and support, significant gains can be realized by helping people develop their undiscovered skills, talents, and abilities. Set high expectations and help people believe they can be reached.

The program is structured to ensure everyone is given an opportunity, encompassing computer literacy, digital skills development, business operation skills development, and an entry-level tech career path (Software Engineer, Compliance Analyst, Data Analyst, Cloud Support Engineer, etc.)

2022 Initiative & Impact

The Junior Software Engineer program launched in September 2022 with over 240 applicants with varied backgrounds through an engagement with Blacks In Technology. Sixty people are going through the first apprentice batch with paid on-the-job training through our strategic partnership with SharpGurus USA. SharpGurus USA helps provide job placement, and we focus on the software engineering training program and support apprentices on the job daily.

  • I have been working with Kemi over the past few months learning Java as part of Generational Shift USA. Though I had little knowledge at the beginning of the program, Kemi has taught me so much about Java and the work life of a developer. As a first-generation Cuban-American, I am incredibly grateful to be allowed to learn this lucrative skill and drive economic advancement for underrepresented minorities under the direction of gifted and motivated teacher instructors.

Erin Kiera - Junior Java Developer Program Participant

  • The Junior Java Development Program is an amazing hands-on learning experience. This challenging program has provided deeper learning of programming fundamentals than any other computer programming course I have taken. I was most impressed with the experience integrating and testing software components, namely building application programming interface (API) and unit testing of program logic.

  • Generational Shift USA has been an integral part of my exploration and is an extremely valuable gateway for me into the technology sector for many reasons. I appreciate the opportunity to learn new skills and break into the tech industry, which is the fastest-growing sector. The program has helped me hone my many attributes, including being meticulous with a keen eye for troubleshooting and quickly learning new ways and technologies to help fix challenges and problem-solving. I firmly believe that at the end of my journey with Generational Shift USA, I will be able to represent those underrepresented groups - black, female, and immigrant. I recommend this program to anyone, especially those with no tech or coding experience.

  • I came to the Junior Java Program without any Java experience, but I am proud to have written many small java programs in 4 months of effort with endless patience and support from our instructor. We started with fundamental java syntax and concepts and then slowly progressed to java functions, methods, and lastly, more advanced topics like class and objects, design and building API, connecting to databases, etc. I genuinely believe everyone can learn anything with the appropriate strategies and time invested in practicing. Thank you to our instructor, who always believes we can do it.

  • When Kemi and I first met, it was clear she wasn't afraid to take on big ideas and big problems. Her company, Generational Shift USA, has a mission to attack the systemic gap in opportunities in tech for underserved communities. Kemi is poised to be successful due to her work ethic, problem solving skills, and her willingness to think outside the box. During our time together with the United Way Social Innovation Incubator, she consistently showed up prepared with new ideas, an open mind to feedback, and a positive attitude, despite the heavy workload. We had many insightful discussions, and I learned an immense amount about the issue she is working to solve. I believe her company will be able to have a positive impact on the issue and the communities affected. I can't wait to see how Kemi continues to grow her company and her impact in the community.
