Topic Overview

Linux is the cloud's dominant OS. The Linux command line is also known as a shell, terminal, or console, allowing users to issue commands at the terminal and automate the commands' execution through shell scripts.

The AWS Command Line Interface (CLI) is a unified tool to manage AWS services. It allows you to control multiple AWS services from the command line and automate them through shell scripts.

Workshop Overview

The three-part workshop introduces you to the basics of working with the Linux command line using the bash shell and AWS Command Line Interface (CLI) to host an AWS S3 static website.

The project provides experience with practical Linux, and AWS CLI commands.

Workshop Objectives

  • Basic Linux commands

  • File System Navigation

  • Work with files

  • Introduction to shell scripts

  • Software update with a package manager

  • AWS CLI configuration

  • AWS CLI to create an S3 bucket

  • AWS CLI to send files to an S3 bucket

  • Static website hosting on Amazon S3 using the AWS CLI

Prerequisite

We recommend that attendees have the following prerequisites:

  • Some Information technology background

  • Requires a laptop to complete lab exercises – tablets are not appropriate.
